Moonplay Cinema proudly and exclusively accepts submissions on FilmFreeway.

Moonplay is a platform for those identifying with marginalized gender identities. Our work is vastly overlooked, ignored, and not equally represented within traditional film communities. Those identifying as women, femme, trans, genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, and non-binary are all encouraged to apply to screen with Moonplay. We primarily focus on exhibiting and screening works by Minnesota-based women and non-binary artists (free submissions). We are excited about creating connections with artists beyond our local community by screening work by national and international artists too ($5 submissions). Waivers are offered for submission fees so please follow the recommendations on FilmFreeway.

Our events take place 1-4 times a year at Dreamland Arts, a 40-seat theater owned and operated by theater artists Zaraawar Mistry and Leslye Orr. The theater, named after a dilapidated movie theater in Secunderabad, India, is located in the Hamline-Midway neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota. It is attached to the artists' house through an underground passage in the basement.

Our current call for submissions is now closed. Selected artists will be notified on or before Spring 2021 for our summer 2021 season. Please learn more about how to submit by following the FilmFreeway link below.

We are committed to paying our exhibiting artists and our venue appropriately for their contributions and time.

Each event opens with a playlist of short films and concludes with a Minnesota-based featured filmmaker highlight, presenting their films followed by a short Q & A.

If you have questions about the submission process, please reach out to Jes here.
